DESIGN DESCRIPTION : A Kashmiri craft inspired by tropical bird illustrations with a touch of folk or naive art. The design features two long-necked birds, likely herons, surrounded by tropical plants. The pattern covers the entire space, creating a naturalistic feel, with the birds slightly off-centre for a more natural look.
MATERIAL :  Dusoot Cotton
COLOUR: A soothing sage green background with warm oranges and browns for the birds, green tones for the leaves, and lively pink, red, and purple for the flowers.
EMBROIDERY THREAD: Woollen yarn
EMBROIDERY TECHNIQUE :  A traditional hand embroidery technique using a hook-like tool called "Aurah" to create a series of looped stitches, resulting in a beautiful, chain-like pattern on the fabric.
TEXTURE : A textured feel that gives the fabric a rich look, making the surface visually interesting and pleasant to touch.

Beautiful, vibrant colors

This wall hanging is absolutely beautiful! I received it today (in the US) after waiting about a month (between them handmaking it and shipping). Shipping was the fastest part (it only took 3 days to get from India to NYC)! I thought this wall hanging was beautiful on the site but it's way more pretty in person. You can see all the little details and the blue is even brighter and more vivid in person. I can't wait to hang it!

More beautiful in real

Love my new wall hanging and can't wait to put it up!

HISTORY-INSPIRED CRAFT

CHAINSTITCH

The Kashmir Valley—a place where different cultures and ideas have come together along the Silk Route—has kept the art of chain stitch alive for over 700 years, with every pull of the yarn forming a chain that remains forever anchored to Kashmir's heritage. The chain stitch rug, locally known as Jalakdozi, has origins that date back more than 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest crafts.

These rugs evoke the nostalgia of a bygone era, with around 200,000 stitches in each one, all lovingly handmade by skilled Kashmiri artisans. These treasures, though influenced by other cultures, have been cherished and adapted to hold Kashmir’s culture and beauty, as if they were always a part of Kashmir’s own heritage.

Our tribute to the ancient skills of Kashmiri artisans is materialized in two of the region’s most cherished crafts: Chain Stitch Rugs and Namdas. The intricate designs of antiquity and soul-stirring modern abstracts speak to the heart, evoking a deep sense of nostalgia for a bygone era. Each pull of the yarn connects us to Kashmir’s storied past, crafting a bridge to our cultural roots.
