She pulls the shawl across because she is accustomed to wrapping herself in luxurious warmth whenever chilly air has enclosed the atmoshere. This time she chooses the ever - revered Pashmina hand embroidered in the bolder strokes of Paper Mache sozni which traces the grace of Paper Mache into fabric to create for its wearer a classic piece which stays with her for a lifetime. After her graduation, Mrs Zahid Abbas could not find a job, but the hand embroidery skill that she had imbibed from her parents helped her earn enough to satisfy her needs. After getting married, her health deteriorated and the magic of her craft stopped spreading. But setting a perfect example of a an ideal husband, Mr. Zahid supported his ailing wife, and started selling her mesmerizingly embroidered shawls to shopkeepers. Gradually, both husband and wife started a group of 20 artisans who come from all corners of the valley and handwork traditional designs of Sozni Kari on Pashmina and woolen shawls. The final product which comes out of the loom is beforehand thoroughly discussed with all the artisans with respect to its design, colour and material and then only work over it starts.
Pashmina! For over a thousand years the finest craftsmanship of Kashmir artisans’ hand spinning a masterpiece has been a token of sophistication of a different level. The word Pashmina is derived from the Persian word Pashm which refers to the luxury wool. A typical Pashmina begins its journey in the mountainous region of Ladakh, where the Chanthangi Goat resides. The Pashm fibres thus obtained are cleaned and combed and spun by hand with utmost skill and dedication. The threads so obtained are given to the weaver who weaves them into warps and wefts, one knot at a time and bind them into a plush wrap or a piece of luxury clothing
