Inspired from the traditional tea kettle of Kashmir known as samawar, which is used to brew, boil and serve tea and kehwa to special guests, here is a miniature one gleaming in coppery hues. This classic piece of rustic decor has been hand crafted in the timeless copper which transforms your home into a dream place to be.
The craft runs in their blood, as it was their ancestors who started making fine handmade items in Kashmiri copper and made a name which is well known in the valley even now. With the help of 50 workers, who work in a shop situated in the heart of the valley, the present owners of As Sadooq gradually added new features, modern patterns and fresh designs into the same craft to cater to the modern world. The makers want to promote handmade copper items all over the world but face the challenge of young generation running away from ancestral crafts to look for jobs in foreign countries.
Locally known as Traam, Kashmiri Copperware is a symbol of royalty. Beautifully carved, the copperware sits high in the court of Kashmir Arts and Crafts, its mesmerizing coppery bronze hue casting a spell of grandeur in heritage inspired motifs. Shehr-e-Khaas has been the hub of copper ware since the 19th century, the old markets of Zaina Kadal still carrying this glorious art. Large beautiful copper samovars, cups, glasses, tasht naari’s, traami’s, jugs, bowls, trays, degh (round bottomed cooling pot) gracefully stand in the shops of downtown even today.
