Often used by the elite class of Kashmir, Silver Carving is an ancient craft which made its way into Kashmir all the way from Iran when a group of artisans accompanied by Sufi mystic Shah-e-Hamdan travelled all the way to its interiors. The silver craftsmen use antique silver as a base and engrave heritage motifs over them with the help of specialized chisels. These craftsmen are centered around the Shehr-e-Khaas of Srinagar and can be seen engraving objects of household utilities and jewelry in their match-box sized workshops
