A gorgeous hand crafted piece of art, the dusoot cotton fabric done in the intricately beautiful crewel embroidery of Kashmir will make an excellent addition to your lovely and classy home. A beautiful combination of colors over the matte base plays wonderfully to charm your tastes. Crewel is a kind of hand-embroidery done with an awl or an aari (a small pointed hook for making holes) more commonly known as a Crewel hook or Crochet. Crewel or Aari work is different from other types of hand embroidery as it is worked from underneath the fabric rather than above. Typically done in thin wool thread on linen or cotton fabric, crewel work provides texture not seen in silk or cotton embroidery. Because of the high quality of embroidery done on wall hangings and rugs, Kashmiri crewel-work is in great demand throughout the world. Crewel fabrics are used for drapery and upholstery; made into curtains and used to cover chairs, to make cushions, pillow shams and throws.
Hand embroidered statements in rugs, cushion covers and myriad forms of home decor, is what Marine Arts specializes in. The brand is known to create finest masterpieces in upholstery and drapery in eclectic colors and floral embroideries within the realms of Kashmiri Chainstitch and Crewel. These ancient embroideries are given an all new twist by the craftsmen at Marine Arts.
Hand crafted in the Valley of Kashmir, crewel embroidery is actually as ancient as the 1st Century B.C and remained forgotten in history until the later part of the 16th century. The craft uses a specialized hook called Awl or Aari, a sturdy base fabric and thick threads of wool to give an embossed and dimensional look to the embroidery. The hook and woolen thread together in perfect symphony cover a much larger area of the underlying base of closely woven dusoot or duck cotton, jute or even linen than the traditional needle can. Crewel Embroidery is done solely by hand – there is no machine which can replicate the craft and the effect those threads of wool cast over plain canvas of cloth Kashmir Box – Crewel Collection
